Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has directed LPG companies to ensure that VAT bills are issued for cooking gas sales through their dealers and retailers.
The directive comes amid growing complaints that gas sellers have been failing to provide bills to consumers after selling LPG cylinders.
The corporation’s LPG and Aviation Department sent a letter to all gas companies on Monday, instructing them to make arrangements for mandatory billing through their authorised dealers and retailers.
The letter stated that complaints had been received that some dealers appointed by gas companies were not issuing invoices after selling LPG. It urged the companies to ensure that VAT bills are issued as part of the gas distribution process.
NOC said it had previously written to the concerned association on August 14, 2024, and January 23, 2025, regarding the implementation of the directive and the need to regulate dealers and retailers.
According to the corporation, mandatory VAT billing is aimed at reducing the risk of consumer fraud and black marketing while ensuring greater transparency in the LPG market.
The latest letter was also copied to the corporation’s executive director and deputy executive director responsible for market management.
