NHRC relieves two members of responsibilities

L-R: Mohna Ansari and Sudeep Pathak

Kathmandu, January 21

Nepal’s constitutional human rights watchdog, National Human Right Commission, has relieved two of its members of their assigned responsibilities.

Sources claim Mohna Ansari has been relieved of her responsibility as the spokesperson of the constitutional body. The NHRC leadership has accused her of presenting herself as a nongovernment campaigner in the media.

Likewise, she disseminated more personal opinions than official information, it has been said. The NHRC has assigned its Secretary Bed Prasad Bhattarai to work as the spokesperson for now.

Meanwhile, another member, Sudeep Pathak has been removed from his position at Protection and Research Department, accusing him of mishandling some research works. Govinda Sharma Paudel has been assigned to take care of the department.

The sources say all the changes were made as per the wish of Chairperson Anup Raj Sharma.
