Kathmandu Metropolitan City has offered two alternatives after banning roadside parking around New Road on January 23.

According to the city, the two alternatives, Kathmandu Towers and Dharahara Parking, can accommodate over 2,000 two-wheelers and 300 four-wheelers.

According to Metropolitan City Police Chief Rajunath Pandey, a total of 2,200 spaces for two-wheelers and 300 spaces for four-wheelers are now available free of charge as an alternative to New Road.

“This is more than how many cars and bikes would fit on the roads,” said Pandey.

Pandey said the Dharahara Parking can accommodate 1,500 two-wheelers. Additionally, Kathmandu Tower offers parking space for 700 two-wheelers and 300 four-wheelers.

“This parking facility is provided for free,” said Pandey.

According to the metropolis, parking facilities are also available in many commercial buildings around New Road.

Tamrakar Complex, RB Complex, Ranjana Complex, Pashupati Plaza, Bishal Bazaar and other buildings have parking facilities on the underground floor.
