Nepal’s opposition parties have said they will not allow Parliament to function until the government withdraws a bill it recently registered to amend some provisions of the constitution.

Eight political parties, including the UML have said that if the government announce election, they will go to the people will the anti-amendment agenda.

We will help the government if it decides to withdraw the bill and create a conducive environment of elections to take place,” the UML’s chief whip in Parliament Bhanubhakta Dhakal said. “We will continue to obstruct House proceedings until the government backtracks on the bill.”

Nepal Workers’ and Peasants’ party’s Prem Suwal said the opposition was ready to face election and to test its anti-amendment stance by means of popular vote. Dhakal also said there was no question of the opposition not taking part in elections, if the government announces dates for the same.
