Nepali citizens no longer required to obtain transit visa when traveling via Hong Kong

Kathmandu, November 14

The Hong Kong government has removed the mandatory transit visa requirement for Nepali passport holders traveling through Hong Kong International Airport while going to or returning from other countries.

According to the Consulate General of Nepal in Hong Kong, the new rule will come into effect from November 15. The consulate stated that the decision was made following continuous diplomatic efforts and requests, prompting the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China to lift the requirement.

Since June 2005, Nepali passport holders had been required to obtain a transit visa when transiting through Hong Kong International Airport.

Hong Kong International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world. Due to the mandatory transit visa rule, Nepali travelers had long been facing difficulties. With the removal of this requirement, travel for Nepali passport holders transiting through this airport is expected to become more convenient.

This step by the Hong Kong government is believed to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two sides.
