The Nepal Red Cross Society will build 1,000 temporary shelters and 1,000 permanent homes for families affected by floods in Rasuwa and the Bhotekoshi area.
According to Bishal Kumar Bhandari, chairperson of the society’s central ad hoc committee, an agreement was signed with the Department of Building under the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development on Thursday.
The agreement also provides for rental assistance to around 5,000 beneficiaries who lost their homes in the floods, Bhandari said.
“We have signed an agreement with the ministry to build 1,000 temporary shelters and 1,000 permanent homes for flood-affected families. We have also agreed to provide rental assistance to around 5,000 beneficiaries whose houses were swept away by the floods,” he said.

Bhandari said an action plan would be prepared immediately after Dashain. Construction of temporary shelters and permanent homes will begin once the government provides the necessary land.
“This agreement will be implemented immediately. We will prepare an action plan after Dashain and begin housing construction as soon as the government makes the required land available,” he said.
Under the agreement, the Department of Building will lead the housing construction work. The initiative aims to support families who lost their homes through temporary accommodation, permanent housing and rental assistance.
