Nepal pleads with ADB for additional support

Kathmandu, May 5

Nepal has appealed to the Asian Development Bank leadership to increase the amount of aid to the country.

Minister for Finance Yuba Raj Khatiwada met ADB President Takehiko Nakao in Nadi of Fiji and pleaded for the support.

Khatiwada is currently in the South Pacific island country to take part in the to 52nd meeting of the ADB Board of Governors.

Appreciating the ADB support to Nepal, the Minister informed that the country was heading towards a speedy economic growth and stability; hence needed more support, according to Khatiwada’s press coordinator Yaman Paudyal.

He also stated that Nepal needed to mobilise additional resources in both public and private sectors. Likewise, the government needed to increase investments in education, health, drinking water, sanitation and social protection so as to ensure implementation of basic rights as envisioned in the constitution, according to him.

Meanwhile, Khatiwada returned home on Saturday night, Paudyal informs.
