Nepal imports phones worth Rs 39 billion in 11 months

best phones under Rs 20000

Kathmandu, June 28

Phones worth Rs 39 billion (USD 311 million) have been imported in Nepal in the first 11 months of the ongoing fiscal year.

A total of 5.63 million phones have been imported in the current fiscal year, out of which 827,000 were high-end smartphones.

The government has collected Rs 6.17 billion in taxes from the import of these phones.

Last fiscal year, the country imported smartphones worth up to Rs 34.14 billion collecting taxes worth little over Rs 5.4 billion.

Even though the number of phones imported in the country has decreased by nearly a million, due to inflation in the international market, the people of the country spent an extra Rs 5 billion on phones.

This is also a reason why the country’s foreign exchange reserve has taken a hit.
