Nepal exports electricity worth Rs 957 million in one year

Kathmandu, August 30

Nepal exported electricity worth Rs 957 million to India in the fiscal year 2019/20, informs Nepal Electricity Authority.

Whereas the government-run power distribution monopoly continues to import power from India to meet the domestic demand in dry seasons, it has increased the amount of export in the monsoon. Likewise, the amount of import is on the decline.

Nepal had exported electricity worth Rs 413 million only in the previous year.

The authority had set a target of exporting 90 million unit power, but the performance exceeded to reach 107 million units.

This amount is equal to six per cent of the country’s annual power import. The imported electricity still covers 22.34 per cent of the national consumption.
