Nepal Bar says justice-nominee Subedi doesn’t meet criteria

Kathmandu, April 9

The Supreme Court chapter of Nepal Bar Association says Nahakul Subedi, who has recently been nominated for the position of justice at the apex court, does not meet the criteria set for the position.

Requesting to bar him from the position, the chapter on Friday submitted a memorandum to the Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee that has begun preparations for a hearing with Subedi. The laws have it that a Supreme Court justice is appointed by the president after the Judicial Council’s recommendation is endorsed by the committee.

Also stating that he does not have achieved sufficient experiences required for the position, a writ petition has been filed at the court, which is scheduled to hear the case next coming Monday.

On March 12, the council led by Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana had recommended Subedi, who is currently the chief judge at the Surkhet High Court, for the apex court.
