Bhimduttanagar, October 19
Seventeen passengers of a bus were injured when a bus numbered Na 3 Kha 9436 met with an accident on the Gulariya-Attariya section of the East-West Highway on Wednesday.
The bus was heading to Bhimduttanagar of Kanchanpur district from Gokuleshwor of Darchula district.
According to Bharat Singh Dhami, DSP at Gulariya Area Police Office, the accident occurred due to gross negligence on the part of the driver. Of the injured, one child is in a critical condition.
Quoting passengers, Dhami said: The bus driver, Surendra Kunwar, was selecting his favourite songs on one mobile and was talking on another mobile, behind the wheel. Using his ankle, he was driving the bus at the same time. Passengers requested the driver not to drive like this, but the latter paid no heed and the accident occurred.
Clearly, the accident occurred due to the driver’s negligence, Dhami said, adding that a search for the driver is already on.
