Kathmandu, January 11

The Dahal-Nepal faction of the Nepal Communist Party has urged the Election Commission to stop the ongoing preparations for the House of Representatives elections.

Citing the government’s decision to dissolve the House of Representatives and hold the elections in April-May is currently sub-judice at the Supreme Court, the faction says the constitutional body should not make any haste in preparing for the polls as it could affect the court decision.

A group of NCP leaders including the faction chairs Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Madhav Kumar Nepal went to the commission on Monday and told the commission officials to stop the process, informs a member of the delegation, Ram Narayan Bidari.

In response, the officials said no poll preparations had started except the preliminary tasks for deciding poll centres.

Meanwhile, the leaders reiterated that they were the legitimate faction of the party.
