Nawaraj Silwal excluded from AIG promotion list

Kathmandu, July 16

The Ministry of Home Affairs on Friday published a list of 11 Nepal Police DIGs recommending them for the promotion to the vacant positions of AIGs. The list, however, does not include DIG Nawaraj Silwal, the most senior among the DIGs.

Silwal, a batch-mate of the incumbent IGP Prakash Aryal, is fighting a case at the Supreme Court demanding he be made the Inspector General on the basis of seniority.

Those recommended for the promotion include Jaya Bahadur Chand, who was earlier made the IGP by the Cabinet. The Cabinet decision, however, was stayed by the government after Silwal filed a writ.

Likewise, another senior DIG Bam Bahadur Bhandari has also been recommended for the promotion. He was also a contender of the IGP race before Aryal’s appointment.

Other nine officials to be promoted include Devendra Subedi, Pashupati Upadhyaya, Keshari Raj Ghimire, Madhav Prasad Joshi, Bijaya Lal Kayastha, Kamal Singh Bam, Mingmar Lama, Rana Bahadur Chand and Bijaya Kumar Bhatta.

Meanwhile, the Ministry also recommended 15 SSPs for promotion to the position of DIGs.

Those recommended include Sarvendra Khanal, Ramesh Prasad Kharel, Pushkar Karki, Uttam Kumar Karki, Bhog Bahadur Thapa, Pushkar Lal Regmi, Pawan Prasad Kharel, Chhabilal Joshi, Manoj Nyaupane, Gyan Bikram Shah, Thule Rai, Sharad Chand, Dhiru Basnet, Pushpa Chandra Ranjit and Suresh Bikram Shah.
