The water level in the Narayani River rose to a record 11.94 metres at Devghat on Sunday, the highest level recorded since measurements began at the station.
According to the Narayani Basin Field Office in Bharatpur, the water level was measured at the Devghat hydrological station.
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology recorded the water level at 11.94 metres at 2:10pm. At Devghat, 7.30 metres is considered the warning level, while 9 metres is the danger level.
The water level had fallen to 11.75 metres by 3:40pm. Although it is now declining, the river remains significantly above the danger level.
Sumit Adhikari, chief hydrologist at the Narayani Basin Field Office, said Sunday’s measurement was the highest water level recorded since hydrological measurements began at Devghat.
He said the water level could fluctuate further as rainfall continues in the hills.
According to office records, the previous highest recorded level was 11.6 metres on October 12, 2024.
The river reached 8.33 metres on August 14, 2023, 9.52 metres on October 6, 2022, and 10.50 metres on June 17, 2021.
Hydrological measurements at Devghat have been conducted since 1963.
