Mumbai police arrest Nepali worker for stealing minister’s valuables

Kathmandu, October 3

Police in Mumbai of India have arrested a Nepali worker on the charge of stealing various valuables from the house of India’s Minister of Railways and Commerce, Piyush Goyal, according to Indian media reports.

The reports have identified the suspect as Vishnukumar Vishwakarma (30) from Nepal. Vishwakarma, however, has denied the charge.

Silver artefacts, watches, Rs 35,000 cash and mobile phones were stolen from the minister’s house last month.

“Vishwakarma said he had gone to Delhi to meet a relative at the time of the theft. Police recovered five cellphones from him,” writes The Times of India, “He said two of the cellphones were his won and the others belonged to a friend.”
