Officials overseeing the construction of an arch bridge in one of Nepal’s busiest highway towns say the bridge will be completed within next month.

Around 95 per cent of the work has been completed, says E-Ride Adventure Lohani JV, the company constructing the bridge.

The construction of the bridge was started in 2014 after a study found that the old bridge was weak and could not withstand heavy traffic. Managing Director of the construction company Motilal Sharma said works on railing, footpath, and wiring will be completed in the coming weeks.

“We had to work with a new design, the river had more water than usual and we could not get construction materials on time due to the Narayanghat-Muglin road expansion work. This is why the construction took time,” added Sharma.

This is the second arch bridge designed by Nepali engineers. The first one was constructed in Chobar. The World Bank provided a loan of Rs 120 million to construct the 60-meter-long bridge.
