Sitaula active in bridging Deuba-Paudel gap

As differences between Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba and his intra-party rival, Ram Chandra Paudel, over planning the 14th general convention and forming internal departments have stalled the ongoing central working committee meeting, the party’s influential leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula has expedited meetings with both the sides. Sitaula on Tuesday met Prakash Man Singh of the Paudel camp, whom Paudel has assigned to hold talks with the party leadership.

Though the two sides are coming closer about the convention plan, their difference regarding the departments has not subsided yet, according to sources.

Two Bhusals critical of NCP leadership

During the ongoing standing committee meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party, two leaders–Ghana Shyam Bhusal and Bedu Ram Bhusal–have made critical comments over the party leadership. Ghana Shyam accused the party leadership of forgetting its foundation after winning the 2017 polls and leading the government, urging the leadership to accept that winning majority parliamentary seats and leading the government only could not be considered achievements.

Likewise, Bedu Ram said the party secretariat had made various decisions going against the party statute and the standing committee and other bodies should not endorse them. He demanded that party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal revised his political report.

Pokhrel wants centre’s help in fixing province name, capital

Province 5 chief minister and ruling Nepal Communist Party leader Shankar Pokhrel has demanded that the central leadership of the party help the provincial government in fixing a permanent name and capital for the province. Pokhrel’s demand comes two days after a provincial parliamentary panel decided to suggest Lumbini as the new province name. The committee was also undecided about the capital.

Speaking with the party’s ongoing standing committee meeting, Pokhrel said the party leadership should provide some concrete directive so as to avoid negative impacts of divisions over such issues.

Govt renovates six runways in one year

The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal has renovated runways of six major domestic airports of the country in the past year and the authority says it is a significant achievement.

The authority renovated and overlaid runways of airports in Bharatpur (Chitwan), Chandragadhi (Jhapa), Janakpur (Dhanusha), Dhangadhi (Kailali), Biratnagar (Morang) and Jomsom (Mustang). The authority also renovated the runway of Tribhuvan International Airport, the country’s sole international airport in Kathmandu.

The next year, the authority is planning to upgrade airports in Chandragadhi, Biratnagar, Janakpur and Dhangadhi.

Conspiring woman laces curry with poison, dies later

In a gruesome act of conspiracy, a woman in Birgunj of Parsa district mixed some poisonous substances in a curry she prepared for the family. However, the conspirator herself fell prey to the trap.

Radhika Devi Patel, 34, died during treatment at National Medical College whereas five members of the family were taken ill. It has been learned that Radhika had some arguments with her stepdaughter, Manisha, 17, and she had planned to kill the teenage girl by poisoning.

Nepal secure 7th position in ‘PUBG world cup’

A team of Nepali PUBG players which claimed to have secured the seventh position in an international competition, in December 2019.

Though the government of Nepal once banned PUBG, an online game, its popularity has not decreased. A recent incident proves that the government effort to control its popularity has failed; a group of youth has won Rs 1 million cash prize by securing the seventh position in an international event which they call ‘PUBG world cup.’

Players from 32 countries had participated in the PUBG Mobile Star Challenge World Cup held in Saudi Arabia recently, according to the Nepali team.
