More than 20 bodies have been found inside a single house in Betrawati of Bidur Municipality-10, Nuwakot, following the devastating flood that swept through the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river systems August 26.

Superintendent of Police Bipin Regmi of the District Police Office, Nuwakot, confirmed that a large number of bodies had been found inside the house.

He said the exact number could not yet be established because of the rain and darkness.

“Yes, several bodies were found inside the same room of the buried house in Betrawati. However, because it is raining and it is already night, we have not yet been able to determine exactly how many bodies there are,” Regmi told Onlinekhabar.

A photograph obtained by Onlinekhabar from a trusted source shows around two dozen bodies lying inside a room of the house.

Mangal Tamang, a ward member of Bidur Municipality, said 22 bodies had been seen inside the house.

“Twenty-two bodies were found in the same house today. It is the house a little above Ghanti Ghar. It is a large house. We had asked that a drone be sent to inspect the area,” Tamang told Onlinekhabar.

According to Tamang, a security team including additional personnel reached the house on Monday and recovered several bodies.

“Five or six bodies were taken out of the house today. The others are still there. An attempt was made the day before yesterday but they could not do it. They tried again yesterday and could not. Today, the Armed Police Force also went there and many bodies were found,” he said.

He said around 16 bodies were still inside the house.

“Many of the bodies are in a condition where they cannot be identified,” Tamang said.

Police said search and recovery operations at the house would resume on Tuesday morning.
