Biratnagar, November 16

The mayor of Pathari Shanishchare municipality in the Morang district in eastern Nepal has kicked one of the ward chairs of his municipality out of the municipal meeting, on Monday.

Mayor Dilip Kumar Rai kicked ward 4 chairman Govinda Bahadur Bhandari out of the meeting by mobilising municipal police after Bhandari accused the municipal leadership of financial irregularities and demanded transparency.

Bhandari demanded that the meeting discuss other items of the agenda only after presenting details of the expenses of Rs 4.2 million allocated for fuel, Rs 3 million allocated for vehicle repair, and Rs 5 million allocated for fuel. Then, Rai ordered the municipal police to take him out.

“The municipal police also misbehaved with me,” Bhandari says, adding he would lodge a complaint against the mayor at the Pathari Area Police Office.

The city office’s administrative officer Laxmi Prasad Kharel, however, says Bhandari was kicked out of the meeting after he blocked the regular procedure of the meeting.

Mayor Rai is a leader of the CPN-UML whereas Bhandari belongs to the CPN-Maoist Centre.
