Minister Ghising inspects flood and landslide affected zone

Minister for Urban Development, Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, as well as Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Kulman Ghising, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to prioritize rehabilitation efforts in regions impacted by floods and landslides.

During a meeting with stakeholders organized by the District Disaster Management Committee at the District Administration Office in Ilam on October 11, Minister Ghising emphasized that since Ilam has been designated a ‘disaster-emergency area,’ rehabilitation initiatives will be given utmost priority.
After the inspection in the affected areas, he also declared that the reconstruction of damaged motorable bridges, Bailey bridges, and suspension bridges would be expedited.

In Ilam, the recent floods and landslides have caused damages to 19 motorable bridges, two Bailey bridges, and three suspension bridges. Chief District Officer Sunita Nepal reported that the floods and landslides in Ilam resulted in 39 fatalities, 26 injuries, and one person missing.

Consequently, 276 families were displaced, 151 houses were completely destroyed, and 327 houses sustained partial damage.
