Microfinance borrowers who had been staging a sit-in outside the National Human Rights Commission office in Pulchowk, Lalitpur, have returned to their home districts today after reaching an agreement with the government.
Following talks between the government and borrower representatives on Saturday, the two sides agreed on a 14-point deal, after which the protesters called off their sit-in and headed home.
At 8:50 am on Sunday, the borrowers boarded Sajha Yatayat buses arranged by the government and set off for their destinations. In the presence of officials from various government bodies, 323 borrowers were seen off in eight buses.
Borrowers from districts including Jhapa, Morang, Sarlahi, Mahottari, Sindhuli, Bara, Parsa, and Nawalparasi were sent back to their respective areas.
