The Education and Health Committee under the House of Representatives has started discussions with stakeholders regarding the National Medical Education Bill, 2075.

Prof Dr Govinda KC was summoned to the meeting of the committee on Wednesday. Prof Dr KC presented his views before meeting, but declined to take part in the discussions, saying that points he wants revised have already been stated in the agreement between him and the government on July 26 following his 15th hunger strike.

He urged the government to ensure long-term reforms in the health and medical education sectors. He called on lawmakers to provide free, affordable and accessible services in rural and backward areas .

The committee’s senior-most member Meen Bahadur Bishwakarma chaired the meeting as the election of committee chair is yet to take place. The committee is scheduled to sit for talks with representatives from the Nepal Medical Association on Thursday.
