MCC beat Nepal by 208 runs in three-day match

Kathmandu, November 8

Marylebone Cricket Club have defeated Nepal by 208 runs in the three-day match at TU Cricket Ground on Friday. The MCC had given Nepal a massive target of 393. However, Nepal were all out for 184 runs in 40.3 overs.

Batting first, the MCC had posted 364 runs in the first innings. Will Rhodes top-scored for the MCC with 73 while Miles Hammond, William Vanderspar and Yasir Arafat all scored half-centuries.

In reply, Nepal struggled from the start, losing captain Gyanendra Malla for a duck. The hosts kept on losing wickets at regular intervals as the MCC reduced Nepal to 33 for 5 by the 20th over. Sompal Kami (26) and Sandeep Lamichhane (39) helped Nepal get the score above 100. However, the two couldn’t help Nepal avoid the defeat as Nepal were all out for 153, trailing behind the MCC by 211 runs.

But, the MCC did not enforce the follow-on and batted for the second time in the match declaring at 181 runs for the loss of six wickets giving Nepal a target of 393.

However, Nepal never looked like posing any threat to that mammoth total. Like the first innings, Nepali batsmen never really looked to occupy the crease and kept on losing wickets at regular intervals, getting all out for 184. Sompal Kami top-scored with 51 for the hosts.
