Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya

Kathmandu, July 31

Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s Mayor, Bidya Sundar Shakya, says potholes on roads of the city cannot be fixed in the monsoon season as it will not be effective.

“The metropolis will not take any initiative to fix the potholes now,” he says, “Doing so in this season is just a misuse of money. Therefore, we will not do anything despite a huge public criticism. The revenue collected from people should not be wasted this way.”

Speaking at a meeting with traffic police today, he said the KMC would fix those holes after the end of monsoon and before Dashain.

Chief of the Metropolitan Traffic Police Divsion, Sarvendra Khanal, however, requested the KMC not to go away from the responsibility.

“Traffic police cannot stand at crossroads due to dust, mud and such potholes,” he said, “Members of the public are also in the problem.”

“If you do not have budget for it, you can manage from other headings. But, please, fix the potholes now.”
