Maoist Centre says India’s Biratnagar field camp should be removed

Biratnagar, August 28

The ruling coalition partner, CPN-Maoist Centre, says India’s field camp in Biratnagar of Nepal, established after a flood in 2008.

The establishment was dragged into controversy time and again and Nepal had demanded its removal. However, India is yet to remove the camp.

Meanwhile, the party says it will talk with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba over his statement in New Delhi that efforts will be made to amend the constitution after next parliamentary elections.

The alliance partner is not satisfied with the Prime Minister for unnecessarily raising the internal issue abroad.

Speaking with journalists at Biratnagar Airport today, CPN-MC Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal said, “There is no official information about in what context the PM said so, but the constitution will not be amended now. Neither should this issue have been raised in agreements with neighbours.”

“We can resume the debate whenever the country needs it. But, it is not necessary now.”

Meanwhile, Dahal also raised concerns over the mention of Saptakoshi high dam in a joint statement issued by the two countries during the Prime Minister’s visit.

The Koshi dam should not have been mentioned in the statement and his party would talk with the PM over this issue, he clarified.
