Kathmandu, September 18
The Department of Foreign Employment has directed manpower companies to submit details on the status of Nepali workers they have sent abroad for employment.
The department has instructed the companies to provide the required details by October 7. In June, the department had directed licensed agencies to submit progress reports on the status of Nepali workers they had sent abroad every three months. The latest directive is a follow-up to that instruction.
The department said licensed agencies must submit the relevant details to its Monitoring Section, keeping the rights, interests and safety of workers in mind.
According to the department, information on whether each worker who has gone abroad for employment has safely reached the respective destination country must be obtained within 15 days. For this, manpower companies must contact the workers and collect the necessary details.
Similarly, the department has directed the companies to directly contact workers and collect information on whether they are receiving the work, salary and other services and facilities specified in their foreign employment contracts.
Licensed agencies must submit the collected information on workers’ status to the department’s Institution Monitoring Section by email within 20 days of the workers’ departure.
The department has also warned that licensed agencies that fail to comply with the directive or fail to update information on the status of Nepali workers will face action under the Foreign Employment Act, 2007.
