Man arrested in Kathmandu shooting case found to be defendant in 27 cases

Aryan Majhi, the alleged leader of a robbery group who was arrested after police opened fire in Kathmandu’s Kageshwori Manohara area, has been found to be a defendant in 27 cases.

Police had arrested Majhi and two others after opening fire at around 9:45 pm on Wednesday.

According to police, Majhi had previously been arrested in 27 robbery and theft cases by the District Police Range, Bhaktapur; Area Police Office, Banepa, Kavre; and District Police Range, Kathmandu, on different dates.

Senior SP Dilip Ghimire of the District Police Range, Kathmandu, said the group had been involved in robberies at various locations in Kathmandu, including snatching chains from people while they were walking on the streets.

According to Ghimire, the other two arrested are Rakesh Thing of Bakaiya Rural Municipality-5, Makwanpur, and Manoj Kumar Moktan of Bakaiya Rural Municipality-7, Makwanpur.

Thing was riding pillion on the motorcycle during the robbery, while Moktan was riding in front.

SSP Ghimire said the three were arrested on charges of involvement in assault committed in a state of serious provocation or impulse.
