Mahara denies visiting alleged victim’s place

Krishna Bahadur Mahara being taken to the Kathmandu District Court from Norvic Hospital, on Tuesday, October 15, 2019.

Kathmandu, November 1

Former speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara has denied the attempt to rape charge that the government labelled against him. He says he had not visited the alleged victim’s room on the date that police claim he committed the crime.

As the Kathmandu District Court began the hearing on the case on Friday, Mahara claimed he had an alibi. An advocate who attended the hearing informs that Mahara told the bench of district judge Sudarshan Raj Pandey that he passed by the alleged victim’s house, but did not enter there.

Earlier, the court had decided to keep the hearing ‘closed’. As demanded by the District Government Attorney Office, which filed the case, the court decided to bar anyone except Mahara, lawyers of both sides and the judge from the bench.

The government attorney also demanded that the preliminary hearing not be stopped until it would reach the conclusion.
