Kathmandu, January 20

Kumar Khadka, newly-appointed Minister for Women, Children and Social Welfare, said on Friday he has not pledged with Prime Minister Prachanda to vote for the Constitution Amendment Bill.

Khadka, speaking at a face-to-face, said: There are rumours that government appointd us — Khadka and Prem Bahadur Singh — ministers in a bid to ensure that the Bill sails through the Parliament. I have nothing to say to those, who are spreading these rumours.

Khadka pointed that he has been seeking Constitution amendment for quite sometime. He said: I have forwarded a large number of constitution amendment proposals in the House, stressing the need to connect the Himalayas, the Hills and the Tarai.

He pointed that major parties have to move ahead together on issues like Constitution amendment, given their respective strengths in the Parliament. Major parties should unite, he said, adding that they will not be able to solve current problems by going separate ways.

Khadka said he will perform many important tasks in a short periodspan of time.

Khadka pledged to form teams for rescue victims of violence against women, establish a recreation centre in each ward for senior citizens, work for the welfare of street children.

At the programme, Prem Bahadur Singh, Minister for Drinking Water and Sanitation, said: Rather than amendment, implementation of the Constitution is the need of the hour. The Constitution can be amended if difficulties arise in course of implementation.
