Dang, April 11

The Lumbini provincial government is planning to spend as much as Rs 25 billion in the next five years to build its new capital in Bhalubang, Deukhuri Valley in the Dang district.

The Provincial Assembly in October 2020 decided to establish the provincial capital there. However, due to a lack of infrastructure, most of the provincial offices are still being operated from Butwal in the Rupandehi district.

The chief minister’s office was shifted to Deukhuri in December 2022 without sufficient preparation.

In this context, the Provincial Infrastructure Development Authority recently finalised a master plan to build the physical infrastructure, claiming all major administrative buildings and offices would be ready in the next five years.

Along with the offices, public infrastructure including roads and bridges would also be upgraded as a part of the master plan.

The authority’s CEO Chhabi Raj Pokharel says the authority would also lobby the federal government to contribute a budget for the implementation of the plan. If insufficient, foreign loans and grants will also be accepted, he informs.

“Once the budget is assured, we will begin the work.”
