Locals sound alarm as landslide blocks Kimrong Khola, heightening downstream risk

Kimrong Khola

Pokhara, October 8

A landslide recently took place in Kimrong, in the Annapurna rural municipality of Kaski. The landslide has blocked the Kimrong Khola resulting in the formation of a sizable lake, due to the extended impeding of the river flow.

Considering the imminent risk of a burst, residents in the downstream areas have been advised to exercise caution and remain vigilant.

“The river was blocked 24 hours ago. It’s become a large lake. If this bursts, this will also affect the Modi Khola. We need to tell everyone to ensure they remain vigilant,” said Raju Gurung from Gandruk.

However, locals have reported that the water is gradually flowing from the river, with the risk of a sudden burst still looming.
