Kulman Ghising denies fraud charges in LED bulb import

Kathmandu, May 9

Nepal Electricity Authority Managing Director Kulman Ghising has denied allegations that he was trying to pocket a hefty sum by purchasing LED bulbs at a higher rate from an Indian company.

After the allegations went rife of late, Ghising organised a press conference in the Capital to clarify the deal and said the rumours were spread to assassinate his character.

An emotional Ghising also shed few drops of tears when he said, “There is no any place (in the deal) to defraud Nepali people. If I had to gobble up their money, I could have increased power outage by two to four hours and earn millions.”

“You can hang us if you find our intention maleficent,” he said, “Otherwise, please do not spread such rumours.”

He challenged that the NEA would pull itself back from the purchase if any trader could supply the LED bulbs at a rate lower than what has been agreed between Nepal and Indian governments.
