Kulman Ghising and Om Prakash Aryal join Gen Z funeral procession (Photos)

Kathmandu, September 16

Energy Minister Kulman Ghising and Home and Law Minister Om Prakash Aryal took part in the funeral procession of those who lost their lives during the Gen-Z protests.

Ghising joined the procession from Gopikrishna Hall carrying the national flag, while Aryal joined from Chabahil Chowk draped in the national flag.

Family members and relatives of the deceased have begun funeral rites with the procession. The bodies were taken out of Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital and are being escorted through the Ring Road to Pashupati Aryaghat for cremation.

Mourners carried photographs of the deceased along with national flags. Some covered themselves with cloth bearing the slogan, “How can the childless understand the dream of Gen-Z?”

The government has declared those killed in the protests as martyrs, announced their cremation with national honors, and declared October 1 a public holiday to mark a National Mourning Day. Following these assurances, the families agreed to perform the final rites.

The Gen-Z movement, sparked by protests against corruption and restrictions on social media, turned violent, leaving 72 people dead and more than 2,000 injured. Most of the deaths were from gunshot wounds, while some bodies were found charred.
