Kathmandu temperature plummets to freezing point, lowest ever in eight years

Kathmandu, January 7

The Kathmandu Valley witnessed the coldest day in past eight years as the temperature plummeted as low as to 0 degree Centigrade, met officials say.

The Meteorological Forecasting Division at the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology recorded the minimum temperature in Kathmandu at the freezing point this morning. This is the lowest temperature the city has witnessed since January 2010.

In the winter last year, the minimum temperature was 0.4 degree Centigrade.

Meanwhile, meteorologist Barun Paudel says the temperature remains constant for next couple of days as northwesterly winds continue.

The lowest ever temperature recorded in Kathmandu was -3.5 degree Centigrade in 1978. The second lowest was -3 in 2000.
