Most broadsheet newspapers (both in Nepali and English) published in Kathmandu on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 have given prominence to the dispute within the ruling party, CPN-UML, over Chairman and Prime Minister KP Oli’s handling of the party organisation.

Madhav Nepal, JN Khanal team up against Oli

Naya Patrika, Annapurna Post and Nagarik  have reports on their respective front pages on the dispute within the UML party.

Naya Patrika in its four-column story just below the fold says Nepal and Khanal have warned Oli that the party will face dire consequences if the leadership does not make amends with rival groups. The report says that while Madhav Nepal has accused the Chairman of imposing his will on the party organisation, Khanal has alleged that Oli’s moves have made party cadres feel insecure.

Annapurna Post in its lead story with a triple-decker screaming headline says Nepal and Khanal organised a meeting of allies in the party to plot against Chairman Oli.  The report says that the leaders justified the meeting by saying that Chairman Oli did not give them the appropriate forum to air their views.

Nagarik in its three-column story says Nepal and Khanal accused Oli of promoting factionalism within the party.

Supreme Court summons Prachanda

 Nagarik, The Himalayan Times and Annapurna Post have given space to a report on the Supreme Court’s move to summon Maoist Centre chief Prachanda in a contempt of court case.

The Himalayan Times, Republica, Nepal Samacharpatra and  Rajdhani have reports on the Madheshi parties boycotting of an all-party meet convened by the Prime Minister.

Nagarik’s lead story talks about how the MP development fund is being misused to suit the interest of people close to the lawmakers. The report, which has stories from different parts of the country, says MPs are spending their constituency development money at their own discretion, and this has had several consequences.

Former VIP’s getting Rs 4 million each from state coffers  

Gorkhapatra’s anchor for the days says a report prepared by a parliamentary committee to say that former VIPs such as the ex-President, Vice-president, and chiefs of security bodies are drawing Rs 4 million each every year from the state coffers in the name of ‘security.’

Nepse continues upward march

Abhiyan’s lead story says Nepal’s only stock exchange’s index continued to march past the 1500 mark on Tuesday as it closed at 1,544 points. The report says that authorities are concerned that big investors are using insider information to make profits, while small investors are at risk of losing money. Rumours that the government is planning to make insurance mandatory of residential buildings also triggered a rally for insurance shares, the report says.
