Kathmandu Metropolitan city plans 5-year disaster preparedness strategy

Kathmandu, March 11

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City Disaster Management Department is formulating a five-year strategic plan.

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City Office plans to address urban disaster risks through preparedness, management during disasters, post-disaster rehabilitation, community capacity building, and coordination with partners.

According to Disaster Management Committee Coordinator Prem Thapa, a participatory mechanism is being built to make the city safe by balancing the urban originality and modern development stage. The department had a discussion with ward-level disaster management committee coordinators on March 13 to get feedback on upcoming policies and programmes and the needs of the wards.

Gangadhar Gautam, acting head of the department, has said that he will formulate a strategic plan after analysing the current situation. He said a strategic plan will be implemented in the coming year and the programme and budget will be proposed accordingly.
