Kathmandu, February 23

At 10 pm on Monday, a Nepal Airlines aircraft was preparing to fly to Dubai from the Kathmandu airport. As the passengers were boarding the plane, the airport staffers saw one man without the boarding pass in line.

As the staff asked him to show the boarding pass, he did not have any papers. Consequently, they called the police and sent him away.

As the police interrogated him and studied the CCTV footage, it was revealed that the man had crossed iron fences to reach the boarding area inside the Kathmandu airport. No security guard saw him.

Investigations also revealed that the man, identified as Asraf Alam from Rautahat, had done the same act last month also. However, he was left unpunished suspecting he had some mental health issues.

However, this time, he will not be spared, informs Tribhuvan International Airport chief Prem Nath Thakur.

Thakur says he is worried that the incident might raise a question about the security situation at Nepal’s single international airport.

“Security agencies have also expressed their seriousness. If the man had carried some explosive, it would have been a disaster,” he says, “Hence, we are serious that the security situation should be strengthened.”
