Karnali’s internal affairs minister: We support Dr KC’s demands

Karnali Provincial Minister for Internal Affairs and Law Naresh Bhandari

Surkhet, July 1

Karnali Province’s Minister for Internal Affairs and Law Naresh Bhandari said that the hunger strike staged by medical education reform activist Dr Govinda KC inside the government office was against the law and order though his demands were genuine.

Talking to Onlinekhabar, Bhandari said, “We support the issues raised by Dr KC. We are positive about his demands regarding the introduction of MBBS courses in Karnali Academy of Health Sciences as I myself am the founder of the Academy. This is a justified issue.”

When asked about KC’s arrest at the Academy, the Law and Home Minister of Karnali Province said, “Staging strike inside government office is not legal. That is the only concern. Else, we do respect him. I have also directed the doctors to take care of Dr KC. We are serious about his security and we are coordinating for the same.”

“Earlier, no doctors were available in Jumla. But now, we have 35 doctors including 25 specialists. This should be a milestone. But, the government refused to look it that way. Few standards of Medical Council are not in favour of the Academy. The central government should revise them and establish the Academy as a model work,” he said.

“The government should prioritise and establish hospitals in remote areas including Karnali, Seti Mahakali, and Rapti including others. Dr KC has made an effort to improve the Academy and our effort for the same,” added Bhandari.
