Kalapani controversy: Diplomatic talks, not international forums says Dahal

Pushpa Kamal Dahal

Kathmandu, November 11

Co-chair of Nepal Communist Party Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that the issue of Kalapani encroachment by India India will be solved through high-level political and diplomatic efforts.  He said that the issue will not be solved by provocation.

Addressing parliament’s international relations committee, Dahal said that the spring near Limpyadhura was the source of the Mahakali River. “As per the treaty, the Mahakali River divides Nepal and India,” he said.

He added that there was no confusion regarding this and said that Nepal would talk to India after gathering the necessary evidence. “We don’t want to give our land to anyone, now do we want anyone else’s land,” he said stating that both India and Nepal were aware that there was border dispute between the two nations.

However, Dahal has urged everyone to remain calm and not spread rumours about the issue. He also asked people not to be provocative. When asked by the committee member if the issue needed to be internationalised, Dahal said that right now there was no need for it.

“We will move to international forums if the need arises. For now, I think political and diplomatic effort should be enough,” he said.
