Kailali policemen murder: 9 handed down life sentence, 1 year after the incident

The Kailali District Court has handed down a life sentence to nine people for killing two policemen at the Jugeda village in the southern part of Dhangadhi sub-metropolitan city in the Kailali district in October 2020.

A single bench of Judge Jayananda Paneru delivered the verdict to sentence Rajendra Rana, Rohit Rana aka Parku, Raj Kumar Rana aka Gabbar, Suresh Rana, Ram Niwas Rana, Dalaram Rana aka Tallu, Rohit Rana and Ram Gopal Rana, all residents of different wards of Dhangadhi.

According to the recordkeeper at the District Court, Raibhan Kunjeda, the court handed down the life sentence to those involved in the murder of two police persons.

All the accused had been remanded in custody during the investigation.

ASI Govinda BK and constable Ram Bahadur Saud who were patrolling the Jugeda area in Kailali on a motorbike were attacked by unidentified persons on October 17. BK’s body was found in the Mohana river the next morning whereas Saud was also found dead nearby, on October 20.

The police investigation concluded that the police personnel were murdered while trying to curb the smuggling of food items, mainly beans.

Rajiv Gupta, a businessperson from Dhangadhi, was also accused in the murder case, but he has been acquitted by the court, record keeper Kunjeda said.
