Jhapa truck hit kills a couple

A couple, riding on a motorbike, died after being hit by a truck at Chiyadokan, Damak municipality-4 of the Jhapa district in eastern Nepal on Tuesday night.

The victims have been identified as Purna Bahadur Bista (43) and his wife Bhima (36), residents of Kankai municipality-3 of the district, informs the District Police Office. They were operators of the Hotel Heaven in Surunga of the district.

A truck (Na 4 Kha 873) had hit the couple’s bike (Province 2-03-013 Pa 4787) head-on at around 10 pm yesterday, the police inform.

Seriously injured in the accident, the couple was rushed to the Damak-based Lifeline Hospital, but the hospital declared them dead upon arrival.

Police have confiscated the truck and arrested its driver, Sujan Thapa, a resident of Biratnagar in the neighbouring Morang district, for further investigation.
