January 6 IELTS test in Kathmandu cancelled owing to question leak

Kathmandu, January 28

Police say they have concluded that the question paper of IELTS (International English Language Testing System) examination held in Kathmandu on January 6 was ‘sold’ before the exam; hence, the test has been cancelled.

On January 5, police had arrested 13 persons including IELTS examinees and education consultancy operators on the charge of selling and buying the question paper. Then, police had compared the paper seized from them and the next day’s question paper to find that most of the questions were same.

Police say they have already written to the authorities including the British Council and the International Development Programme Australia to cancel the exam conducted that day.

Meanwhile, police have also directed the Council to file a complaint at Delhi police in India claiming after the Council’s representatives in Delhi was found in the leak.

The suspects had charged Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000 from a student to give them the question paper, according to investigators.
