Janai Purnima, also known as Raksha Bandhan, is being celebrated across the country today. Every year, a fair is held at the Kumbheshwar Temple in Patan on the occasion.
The temple premises are crowded with devotees celebrating the festival. Some have lined up to offer prayers at the temple, while others are tying sacred threads as part of the Raksha Bandhan ritual. There is also a steady flow of people changing their sacred threads (janai).
Devotees can be seen bathing in the temple’s pond and water spouts. Some young people are enjoying themselves by diving and swimming in the pond within the temple premises.
Police personnel have been deployed to ensure security and manage the queues.
According to religious belief, Lord Ram shot an arrow at Kumbheshwar and brought water from Gosainkunda to the temple’s pond. Because of this belief, devotees from different parts of the country visit Kumbheshwar to bathe on the day of Janai Purnima.
