Former Congress chief whip Ishwari Devi to run for joint general secretary

Kathmandu, October 4

Ishwari Devi Neupane, a former chief whip of the Nepali Congress parliamentary party and former chair of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee, has announced her candidacy for joint general secretary at the party’s 15th General Convention.

Neupane has long been active in the party’s organisation building, democratic movements and parliamentary politics. She announced her candidacy with a commitment to develop the party into a stronger, more popular organisation connected with the people. She has served three times as a central member of the Nepali Congress and has also held important parliamentary responsibilities alongside her organisational work.

Announcing her candidacy, Neupane said she would play a significant role in making the party more popular, strong and trusted by the people.

“I will have an important role in the campaign to build the Nepali Congress into a popular party, strengthen the organisation further and establish it as the country’s number one party. I therefore sincerely appeal to all convention delegates to give me this opportunity by voting for me,” Neupane said.

Neupane said the party’s organisation needs to be made more orderly and effective from the village level to the centre, and that a new generation must be brought into the Congress mainstream.

According to her, her candidacy is focused on party unity, strengthening the organisation, respecting cadres and building closer ties with the public, so that the Congress can become a more effective political force.

Her candidacy is seen as a strong representation of women’s leadership at the 15th General Convention. She has also made it a priority to make women’s participation and role in the party’s central leadership more effective.

Announcing her candidacy for joint general secretary at the convention, which began on Sunday, Neupane expressed her commitment to use her political experience, her experience in organisation building and her continued contribution to the party more effectively in the coming term.
