Iran seeks justice for victims of Minab school attack

Iran says it is pursuing national and international initiatives to secure justice for victims of an attack on Shajareh Tayyebeh School in Minab in February.

According to Iran’s state news agency IRNA, Deputy Minister for Human Rights Askar Jalalian said various efforts were underway to ensure justice for the victims.

Jalalian said Iran’s Office of Legal Affairs was actively pursuing judicial proceedings on behalf of those affected by the school attack. He said all national resources were being mobilised for this purpose.

However, he did not specify which channels Iran was using to pursue legal action at the international level.

Last month, a United Nations-mandated fact-finding mission concluded that the United States may have committed war crimes in two attacks carried out on February 28—one on the school in Minab and another on a sports complex in Lamerd.

According to local officials, 156 people, including 120 students and 26 female teachers, were killed in the attack on the Minab school.

Independent sources cited by the UN mission, however, put the death toll at 157. The victims included children as young as six.

Jalalian also said the government was working to inform the international community about the attack on the Minab school and ensure that the incident became part of Iran’s national history.
