Interprovince Council meeting to discuss budget plan

Chief ministers hold a meeting with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, on Thursday, April 4, 2019.

Kathmandu, April 26

The Interprovince Council, a joint constitutional body comprising the Prime Minister and chief ministers of seven provinces of the country, is holding its meeting on Friday.

It has been learned that the meeting will discuss distribution of resources as the federal government is preparing its annual budget plan for the next fiscal year.

Officials of the Council of Ministers say the meeting was called so as to about duplication in allocation of the budget from federal and provincial governments.

Earlier, the chief ministers had demanded that they have a control over at least 33 per cent share of the federal budget.

They had argued that the provincial government could not work effectively due to lack of resources and budget, hence appealed to the federal government to allocate more budget so that the new federal system could be more effective.

Finance Minister and Home Minister are also ex-officio members of the Council.
