Kathmandu, June 5

Nepal Oil Corporation says that the India-Nepal (Motihari-Amlekhgunj) petroleum pipeline will soon come into operation.

Upon completion, petroleum products from India will be imported to Nepal via the 78-km pipeline. According to NOC, around 36 km of the pipeline is on Indian territory.

The project was initially planned to be completed in April but the deadline was extended until July. NOC officials informed that eight-day-long training will be conducted to Nepali 25 technicians to operate the pipeline.

According to NOC Deputy Director Pushkar Karki, the pipeline will be handed over to Nepal after the technicians are trained. NOC plans to expand the pipeline up to Lothar in Chitwan in the future.

Once in operation, the pipeline will help Nepal save up to Rs 2 billion in transportation expenses.
