Kathmandu, March 20
DIG Prakash Aryal, the second senior-most officer in Nepal Police, has also filed a petition at the Supreme Court demanding that he be appointed chief of the force.
Aryal’s move comes a day after the Supreme Court denied him permission to file a petition on Sunday, two days after a full bench of the court ordered the government to present DIGs Jaya Bahadur Chand and Nawaraj Silwal’s performance appraisal to the bench.
The government appointed Chand, the third senior-most officer in the ranks, as IGP in February. However, Silwal moved the court saying that he was the most senior officer in the force and he has to be named the police chief. The Supreme Court issued an interim order to the government putting a stay on the whole appointment process.
During a hearing of the case on Friday, the court ordered authorities concerned to present documents related to the performance evaluation of Chand and Silwal only; Aryal felt left out.
A verdict on the writ filed by Silwal is likely on Tuesday. However, the fate of the other writ filed by Aryal will be decided by the bench after a hearing, which is yet to be scheduled.
