A man has died when a mud mound fell on him while constructing a road in Sera, Adanchuli rural municipality-5 of the Humla district in Karnali, on Monday evening.
The victim has been identified as Santosh Tharu (26), a resident of the Bardiya district, who was operating an excavator for the construction work.
DSP Heramba Sharma, the chief of the District Police Office, says he died because of a failure to be rescued on time.
He says locals could not dare to rescue him in the fear of the mound collapsing further.
Meanwhile, his assistant saved himself after jumping off the machine.
Further investigation is underway.
