House wants govt to take all properties of Nepal Children’s Organisation under own control

A meeting of the Women and Social Committee in Parliament.

Kathmandu, February 3

A committee in the House of Representatives has directed the government to take all properties of the Nepal Children’s Organisation under its control. The Women and Social Committee in Parliament has also told the government to protect all children currently kept under the organisation.

A meeting of the panel held today said the government should ensure that it has effective systems at provincial and local levels to protect the orphaned children. The Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens should utilise the properties of the organisation for this purpose, according to the meeting’s decision.

Meanwhile, the committee also directed the government to identify the organisations ‘involved in trade in the guise of altruism’. The government has been told to maintain transparency in the activities of the NGOs involved in child protection, and make sure that they would not violate children’s rights at any cost.
